Pregnancy Discrimination Act of 1978

The Pregnancy Discrimination Act (42 U.S.C. §2000e(k)) amended Title VII, to include pregnancy in its general prohibition of discrimination on the basis of sex/gender. The Act prohibits less favorable treatment of pregnancy-related conditions than afforded to other conditions and disabilities. Covered employers must provide the same benefits to pregnant employees as those afforded to other workers with temporary and long-term disabilities.
